WHS WL Year 2 Curriculum Guide

 Students will continue to build proficiency in three modes of communication: interpersonal (person-to person speaking or writing), interpretive (listening and reading), and presentational (one-way speaking and writing).   Students will be engaged in practical conversations, paired activities and group work, including interactive online assignments.     Aspects of culture will be presented through videos, music, and selected readings from a variety of sources. A variety of assessments will be used throughout the year.

2 Home Sweet Home

6 to 8 weeks

  • What is my daily routine like?

  • How can I describe the location of different rooms and objects in relation to each other

  • What are homes like in the target culture?

  • What do I do with my family at home?

Students will demonstrate understanding and self expression in the target language about the following subtopics: 

  • Their own home and/or ideal home

  • Describe family members and their routines

  • Daily routines

3 Sports & Wellbeing

6 to 8 weeks

  • What are the parts of your body?

  • What are the different kind of injuries 

  • How is a doctor visit?

  • What things make me a healthy person?

  • Describing different kind of injuries and what were you doing when they happened

  • What is your favorite sport?

Students will demonstrate understanding and self expression in the target language about the following subtopics: 

  • Parts of the body 

  • Different kind of injuries 

  • How are they feeling 

  • Talk about sports and their benefits.

  • Sports equipment

  • describing their favorite player.

4 Getting around the City

6 to 8 weeks

  • How do I navigate in and between cities in the target language?

  • Can I identify buildings and locations around the city?

  • How can I read maps in the target culture?

  • Different kind of transportation

  • Maps

  • Directions 

  • How to get to a place

  • Follow instructions in terms of location

5 Going out on the Town

6 to 8 weeks

  • Where can I go clothes shopping?

  • Where can I go food shopping?

  • How can I order food in a restaurant?

  • How can I ask for cost and deal with currency?

  • How can I express likes and dislikes?

  • Shopping (food/clothing)

  • Restaurants

  • Cost and Currency

  • Likes, Dislikes

6. Exploring & Experiences 

6 to 8 weeks

  • How do I discuss and plan a vacation?

  • Can I identify some common accommodation types in the target country?

  • Can I describe and recount cultural activities and experiences like museum visits, restaurant outings, tours, and social interactions, etc? 

  • What products can I find in the target country and how are they similar/dissimilar to what I can find in the US?
