The Waltham Public Schools Special Education Department is responsible for making sure that our 1000 students with special education needs successfully access the general education curriculum with the support of specialized instruction and support services. Our students, who range in age from 3 to 22 years old and are in grades Pre-K through post grade 12, have learning needs that are met in the least restrictive educational environment as possible. Specialized programs are found in each building.

We are planning our annual conference! It will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30. Topics will focus on information and strategies to support you as a parent. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided. Interpretation and child care will be available. If you are interested in attending, please complete this form to help us with our planning.  

¡Estamos planeando nuestra conferencia anual! Se llevará a cabo el sábado 9  de marzo de 8:00 am a 1:30 am. Los temas se centrarán en información y estrategias para apoyarlo como padre. Se proveerá desayuno y almuerzo. Habrá interpretación y cuidado de niños disponible.Si está interesado en asistir, complete este formulario para ayudarnos con nuestra planificación.

OVERVIEW OF THE *NEW* DESE IEP FORM

DESE has revised the Individualized Education Program (IEP) form and is working with Massachusetts districts to implement the new form beginning Fall 2024. Parents and guardians will notice changes in layout, in the listing and identification of accommodations and modifications, and in the format of the goals and objectives sections. We welcome Dr. Nadene Stein, Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Personnel, to walk us through the changes and what we can expect.

Also – the FY24 WPS School Budget is being presented in February. Make sure our kids are being fully funded! If you would like to receive updates on the school budget and more, email the Waltham SEPAC at walthampac@gmail.com to get on our distribution list.

DESE ha revisado el formulario del Programa Individualizado de Educación (IEP) y está trabajando con los distritos de Massachusetts para implementar el nuevo formulario a partir del otoño de 2024. Los padres y tutores notarán cambios en el diseño, en el listado e identificación de acomodaciones y modificaciones, y en el formato de las secciones de metas y objetivos. Damos la bienvenida a la Dra. Nadene Stein, superintendente adjunta de personal estudiantil, para que nos explique los cambios y lo que podemos esperar.
